Collection 3.
The Interior
They say, here in New England, that if you don't like the weather, just wait 5 minutes. Same goes for the scenery —for another flavor, just go around the next bend. The pines and woods of New Hampshire, Vermont farms and vistas, lakes and mountains of Maine. Even the conservation lands of metro Boston. Bottom line, our interior has it all. And then, of course, there are the Alps.

“Sometimes a painting changes in front of your eyes. Unexpectedly. This river plein air came out of my pack sideways back at the ranch, and voila—I’m an abstract, it shouted! And so it has hung ever since. Most happily.”

“If there’s one place I’d always rather be, it’s on my trusty Adirondack Guideboat. Or better yet, on my boat painting. Sherpa, as she’s called, doesn’t make it easy, though. We drift and rock and roll. But if I work really, really fast I might just create something, like this. Maybe.”

"Here there is a stillness. A Vermont kind of tranquility. Where adventures tend to be small ones, and nature's expressions are of the subtle variety. Here we marvel at fireflies. At how our fingers can meander trough stream pebbles, revealing the glint of antique bottle glass, or a pottery shard, or the tip of an old iron tool. Here we swing thoughtfully below the century oak...and remember our forebears. In a place where water just gurgles and the horizon evades easy demarcation, it is easy to reflect on our place, and on the gifts we have been allowed to share."

“This rugged tree has hung on to its lakeside perch for years untold, and I can’t imagine the northern Maine hardships it’s endured. Certainly it deserved to get painted.
From a purely aesthetic point of view, its striated, strip-like bark has become weather bleached, yet exhibits a subtle palette of light blues, greens, warm and cool grays, and even ochres. These I’ve accented some, though not overly. Proudly, I assume it stands guard—perhaps mourning the twin that has been unceremoniously removed.
Ahhhh…life in the Maine woods. However you look at it I’ve very much enjoyed the inner, artistic pleasure of painting this specimen. Hope you find something to take from it as well…”
